The legacy of Better Business Bureau (BBB) charity reports dates back to the 1920s. We have operated under our current name, BBB Wise Giving Alliance, since 2001.
We have been a proud member of Charity Monitoring Worldwide for more than 20 years. We believe learning from similar organizations around the globe makes us stronger. CMW members share our Standards-based approach to charity accountability, advancing holistic charity evaluations and trust for charities internationally.
Our mission is to strengthen public confidence in charities, promoting wise giving and trustworthy charity practices.
In addition to charity reports, BBB Wise Giving Alliance produces the Wise Giving Guide magazine, featuring a summary listing of national charity evaluations; a weekly Wise Giving Wednesday post addressing charity accountability issues; and the Give.org Donor Trust Report tracking donor trust and giving attitudes. Year-round, we also offer donor guidance and tips, and Givesafely.io, a trust-based donation platform protecting personal data through blockchain technology.
Our CEO, Art Taylor, is the host of The Heart of Giving Podcast, a weekly series featuring detailed discussions with charity sector leaders on topics including motivations to give and what drives charity professionals to a career of service.
BBB Wise Giving Alliance produces approximately 1,500 reports on nationally-soliciting charities each year. Of charities that provide requested information, approximately 70% are found to meet the 20 BBB Standards of Charity Accountability. In addition, BBB offices report on approximately 10,000 local and regional charities.
